Weekly Roundup 14/5/14

Evan Oliphant

This week, we have more Scots doing well in UK events. Among them Katie Archibald, Rab Wardell & Evan Oliphant.

Katie Archibald was at it again, nearly lapping the field, by herself, to win the first Matrix Fitness Grand Prix Series in Stoke-On-Trent. Great news for the Scots, with Eileen Roe taking the sprint for 2nd place & Charline Joiner in 8th after breaking her back earlier in the year! Full Report (via VeloUK).

In the Mens Event, The Pearl Izumi Tour Series, Evan Oliphant took 7th place. He’s been showing some fantastic form recently across all types of course & distance. A 10th place in one of the UK’s most prestigious road events, the Lincoln GP at the weekend & the previous weekend 10th again in the Cycle Wiltshire GP, both part of the British Cycling Elite Road Series (formerly the Premier Calendar, or Star Trophy for the geriatrics). He currently holds 6th place in the series & his Raleigh team are leading.

Fraser Martin of Spokes RT, placed on the podium of the Junior event at Lincoln, ‘The West Common Junior Road Race’. It takes place on the same course in front of a big crowd & all top placings are well-earned, if you get 3rd place as a junior, your card is marked. No pressure, but I’m going to look out for Fraser Martin this season, the Lincoln junior event singles out talent.

Meanwhile in the British Marathon MTB Championships (full results listed below), there were plenty of Scots placed within the top 15.

Coming up next weekend, we have the Discovery Junior CC Youth Track Omnium at Caird Park, part of the national series. The Dundee Thistle stage race & the Scottish Road Race Championships in Aberdeenshire, lots of riders on form, should be a great race, although I’ve seen no publicity, start sheets or race info, pass it on if you have it please.
